Art in the Open - 2012

Ireland’s 5th International Plein Air Painting Festival

Join more than 100 artists and many more art-lovers in the historic harbour town of Wexford, Ireland for Europe's largest plein air painting festival and an exciting programme of activities.

While the framework of this fine art festival is seven days of outdoor painting, culminating in an exhibition, our foremost aim is simply to facilitate an easy-going, enjoyable event in which to meet and learn from other artists and to appreciate the delights of the Irish landscape. With this in mind, we recommend you take time to benefit from one or two of the superb workshops offered, perhaps to avail of a guided tour at one of our paint-out sites, take a sightseeing stroll or relax over an extended lunch when you feel like it and savour your Irish painting holiday.

There will be Paint Outs, International Artists, Indoor Workshops, Morning Plein Air Wrkshops, Exhibitions, Evening Activities and more!

Heathpark, New Ross, Co. Wexford was announced today as the venue for the 2012 National Ploughing Championships by Mr. Simon Coveney, TD, Minister for Agriculture, Marine Food at  a reception in the Horse and Hound Hotel, Ballinaboola.

The main event will be on the lands of the O’Dwyer Family with part of the Exhibition stretching across to the neighbouring Kehoe family farm, while hundreds of acres of parking will be provided by the local landowners.  Estimated to generate upwards of 15 million euro for the local economy with accommodation providers for a 30 mile radius usually packed for the “Ploughing Festival”.

Speaking at the Announcement Managing Director of the National Ploughing Association (NPA) Anna May McHugh said “It is 14 years since the National Ploughing took place in Wexford and it is very fitting that the event returns in 2012 as this will mark the 80th Anniversary of the first National Ploughing in the County.”
